What Success Looks Like In This Job

Provides direct supervision to a staff of child protection caseworkers. Ensures that quality investigations and assessment services are provided for children who are subjects of reports of abuse and neglect. Provides case consultation, staff guidance, quality assurance, and develops staff capacity through training, coaching, and mentoring. Helps to build the foundation for and maintains unit functioning, as well as develops and maintains staff capacity. The supervisor will also help support and guide caseworkers in the implementation of their duties. In assigning a referral, the supervisor obtains information from case history in order to make decisions around imminent safety/risk to children. The supervisor develops and implements response plans to address specific issues of the referral as well as any historical issues that may still exist and nurtures community partnerships to enhance service delivery program development in other related agencies and the community at large.

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Provides weekly supervision and team supervision to ensure an effective workforce.
  • Provides consultation and staffing regarding investigations, child protection assessments, decision making, and case planning.
  • Provides training support and ongoing mentoring for new staff; assists staff to recognize policy and procedure priorities and the liability involved in providing family services within child protection programs.
  • Obtains information from case history in order to make decisions around imminent safety/risk to children.
  • Develops and implements response plans to address specific issues of the referral.
  • Nurtures community partnerships to enhance service delivery program development in other related agencies, and the community at large.
  • Ensures the compliance of county, state, and federal mandates and utilization of tools identified in assessing the safety/risk of children. Evaluates the performance of casework staff and addresses developmental and educational training needs.
  • Provides a work environment that ensures productivity and an atmosphere in which learning and skills can be developed.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications for Success

  • Experience: Four (4) years of full time professional social casework experience acquired after the degree in a public or private social services agency in an area appropriate to the position
  • Education and Training: 
    • Bachelor's Degree in one of the human behavioral science fields.
    • A Bachelor's of Social work may substitute for 1 year of the required experience.
    • An MSW may substitute for 2 years of the required experience.
    • Proof of education, (degree or transcripts,) and license (if candidate has received one) are required.
  • License or Certificate:
    • Must be eligible to become a certified supervisor through the State Child Welfare Academy or already be certified.
    • Possession of a Colorado Driver's License and proof of automotive insurance.
  • Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.

More Qualifications for Success

  • Other: Must utilize a personal vehicle to get to many appointments in the local community and surrounding areas within Colorado
    • PLEASE NOTE: At this time, team is scheduled for Monday through Friday, (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.); as with all of our teams, crises may extend the day. Team currently provides child abuse and neglect hotline screening and responds to those referrals requiring an immediate response. In the next few months, it is possible that hours of work (will continue to be M-F) may be altered and duties may be expanded.
