We are seeking a Child Protection Therapist to provide intensive/extensive clinical assessment and treatment services to families involved with Social Services with the primary goal of reducing and/or eliminating child protection concerns.

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Provides direct therapeutic services:
    • Strengths-based assessment, crisis intervention, and safety planning interventions, as well as individual, group, couple and family therapy services; with the primary focus/goal in reducing and/or eliminating child protection concerns. Direct therapeutic services include face to face and telemental health services. 
  • Conducts indirect therapeutic services:
    • Identifies mental health and clinical goals and bio/psycho/social needs of the family; develops treatment plans; documents observations of client (family) progress in contact notes; completes clinical reports (assessment, monthly, and closure) which address case status, stage of services, and evaluations towards terminating/transitioning clients out of treatment or to community resources.
  • Engages in collaborative practices:
    • Sets and facilitates case staffings with internal and external collateral professionals to review clinical goals and ensure quality customer relations and service provision; keeps supervisor up to date on case status, issues, and potential concerns; participates in and/or facilitates individual and group clinical supervision, training and meetings; attends advisory/decision making forums to coordinate service provision. Provide expert testimony in Court Proceedings.

Qualifications for Success

  • Knowledge of:
    • Colorado Children's Code.
    • Departmental policies and procedures.
    • Colorado State Department of Social Services Manual, Volume VII.
    • Computer systems used in child protection.
    • Practices and principles of child protection.
    • Clinical modalities and their application to child protection.
  • Skill to:
    • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Assess and coordinate community resources.
    • Provide therapeutic treatment to clients.
  • Ability to:
    • Represent department and County in a positive and professional manner.
    • Develop therapeutic relationships with clients.
    • Recognize and identify risk factors and dynamics of child abuse, child neglect, and family functioning and cultural issues.
    • Work independently.
    • Provide leadership to coworkers and make decisions as needed.
    • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
    • Adhere to Adams County Norms and Values.

More Qualifications for Success

  • Experience: Three (3) years of full time professional social casework experience or experience as a practicing clinician acquired after the degree in a public or private social services agency in an area appropriate to the position.
  • Education and Training: A Master's degree in one of the human behavioral science fields.
  • License or Certificate:
    • Clinical License required OR License Eligible.
    • Possession of a Colorado Driver's License and proof of automotive insurance
  • Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Other: Must utilize a personal vehicle to get to many appointments in the local community and surrounding areas within Colorado
